Everything about spring training is easier; the parking is convenient, the lines are scarce, the players are excited to get back on the field, the crowds are smaller, and the atmosphere is cheerful and laid back.  With over $753 million in annual sales to the state, including $385 million from out-of-state visitors reported by the state of Florida, it’s safe to say that we are happy to host this annual event.

If you plan to come out and enjoy spring training, it is important to know that there are the some safety risks from the usual foul balls to rowdy fans.  According to Wake Forest College over 3,850 fan injuries on average occur at major and minor league games per year, and with smaller crowds, fans at spring training games are likely to be seated in the areas where foul balls frequent most or in the exposed grassy areas beyond the outfield. While netting is put up and signs are posted to alert fans of the potential dangers, following these 3 safety tips will help ensure your safety.

• Bring your baseball and softball gloves and remember to have them ready even when the teams are just hitting around
• Be aware of sitting is areas where foul balls can land this includes grassy areas beyond the fields
• When a player is reaching for a ball over the stands and railing don’t interfere just stand back!
